Wizard Con Review!

I know this is really late, but remember Wizard Con? Sadly I do not because I wasnt able to make it. But my friend Chris went, and he had a whole different experience than I expected. I go to Cons for the Cosplay, he goes for the games. So here is his experience (And remember I am late posting this... very very late) :

Last weekend I attended Wizard Con Richmond at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. I attended on both Friday and Saturday, so I have two wildly different stories to tell about my quest to see Bruce Campbell.
Friday. Opening day. Everyone just coming off of work comes down to the Con to get a glimpse of the scheduled celebrity appearances and festivities, right? That explains why I saw at most three dozen people at the entire convention. It was seriously a ghost town. None of the celebrities even showed up at the times listed on the program.
No big deal, I said. I’ll just do what I came to do: go to the tabletop gaming area (sponsored by Game Nite), and participate in the scheduled Magic draft. I showed at the right time and headed to the bedreadlocked girl at the front desk to sign up only to discover that I was the first person who even mentioned the event the entire day. So I packed up my stuff, headed home, and made sure to keep my three-day pass wristband.
Now it would have been easy to give up at this point, but I was really determined to see Bruce Campbell. So I headed out again on Saturday, this time bright and early, to see if I’d have better luck. Fortunately, the place was packed and all the events were in full swing. Unfortunately, this meant that the best glimpse of Bruce Campbell I could get was on the other side of the convention floor over the shoulders of the convention guards. When 4:00 rolled around, the nerd-herd shuffled over to the conference room where we got to see Bruce up close (~200 feet) and personal.
So I was now free to enjoy the actual meet of the convention. I got merchandise signed, and sold some of my own stuff to one of the many collectors. I was finally content and ready to head home. That’s when I was stopped by dreadlock girl. Apparently she remembered how the Magic event fell through the day before, so she introduced me to seven attendees who were looking to play.
I won’t bore you too much with the details of how horribly run this event was. In my 11 years of playing this children’s card game, I had never been to an event where the organizers hand out cards and just let the players figure it out for themselves. Three people dropped out of the event before the games even started, so I took my not-to-impressive victory and left a few bucks richer.
So if anyone else is interested in the fan-art, collecting, or cosplay aspects of Wizard Con, by all means, buy discount tickets as soon as you can for one near you. If you’re a fan of tabletop RPG’s, boardgames, or card games, save your $75 and use it to play at your local game store. Not only will the games be run more competently, but your opponents won’t forfeit so they can go catch a glimpse of Lou Ferrigno.

If you liked what Chris had to say and you agree with him then totally comment!

RavenCon Review!

I don't think I could have been anymore excited with all that RavenCon had to offer! I loved what all the dealers were selling, the costumes were great, and I got a ton of info on upcoming cons!
It was a three day Con, but I wasn't able to make it Friday- I went Saturday and Sunday. No let me tell you about Sunday- because that was an experience all within itself. I had a track meet that I had to wake up early for- I left that early to go to a Jazz Festival where, as an officer in Sci Fi club, I volunteered to represent by serving food. Here is the catch tho- I had to immediately level Jazz Festival to go to RavenCon- so I dressed in full Andorian Costume at Jazz Festival an served food. Needles to say I scared a few people impressed some others and in general was asked a lot of questions. Here is a selfie I took (that was apparently tweeted with the caption "But first, let me take a selfie")

The prosthetic for the Andorian was pretty awesome, though I did have one issue and that was that I couldn't get my antennae to do anything right. And I forgot to draw my eyebrows. But, if you still think it's cool and are impressed or think you could do it better then just go and check out the post I created about it: Trek Cosplay: Andorian Style!

Alright, less about me more about RavenCon! Like I said before, I really enjoyed the diversity of all the dealers! There was a really great T-shirt dealer where I got a firefly shirt and Jane's hat. There were a quite few jewelry/accessory tables (remember this Con was dedicated to females basically). At one table I bought two headpieces and at another I bought a beautiful hip scarf. And of course I bought cute art:

But alas, for it seems that out of all the friends I had join me at this con, I and maybe two others were the only one who were impressed. This Con was lacking in the anime department, and it also had a whole lot of Steam Punk (which I thought was awesome but others disagreed), and there also wasn't very much fan art to be sold. I think there were only two art tables and then there was one professional artist (I guess he was more professional than others. He was the guest of honor, he had some pretty rad but definitely expensive art).
So that was that- and then the Costume Contest/ Masquerade was pretty awesome as well, I didn't enter because there was a whole lot of rules, but those who did enter looked pretty awesome!

The last picture is of all the costumers entered into the contest. And the first two were my favorites that I had good pictures of (I had many more favorites but no good pictures of them)

And then here are me and my friends! (By the way, on Sunday I dressed as an Orion Star Fleet officer!)

So that was RavenCon! If you have any questions or comments just, you know, write a comment- especially if you were at RavenCon! Because I would love to hear your opinions- especially the opinions of people who really enjoyed RavenCon!

Comic Con Review

Hey! Remember that Baby Comic Con I posted about? Well I went and for such a little Con it was awesome! I really didn't know what I was expecting but I definitely did enjoy it!

I went dressed as a female Vulcan science officer from the Original Series with my newly made Star Trek belt

There was a group of Star Wars characters there to take pictures with! So my Power Ranger friend and I did that!

Here are some additional images I took, sadly I didn't take many.

So the Con was really great and they had a lot more than I expected.
There was a Vendor Hall where I saw The Lacy Brothers (Two really talented artists, they are at a lot of cons)
So Shout Out to them because I really like their work!

I know there were drawing workshops, but I didn't get to check them out. And the there was of course the costume contest and the showcase of everyone.
It was great for such a small Con.
If they have another one I definitely recommend going!

Baby Comic Con

Alright everyone! Get excited, there is a small Comic Con coming up.
It is at the Meadowdale Library
Saturday, March 22, 2014
10:00am-3:00pm

Its FREE
There will be a costume contest! (I'm going to be doing that!)

I'm not exactly sure if there will be things to buy- so you might wanna bring money, just in case.
And hey, bring your Library Card! Because we will be at the library! So Library Card!
:)

Now, this is just my opinion, and the world revolves around my opinion,
But, I think this is a really great Con for the first-timers.

Because:
its small.

So this is that chance to really practice getting that costume ready. See what works and what doesn't. Experiment! Get into character, because now is the time to really get out there and get funky with it. Try an accent or a funny walk. Seriously, if you get your characters dialog down, that is really impressive and is sure to get you first place in any costume contest.
You must blossom from your introverted shell- just for the contest.
And then once they hand over your trophy and prize and such you can slink back to the shadows.
:)
Also, if you have ever wanted to give a homemade costume a try, I think this would be a good Con to try.

SO GET EXCITED!
Comic Con! Comic Con!
Dress up time!
Excellent!

Party on Wayne!
Party on Garth!

*Schwing*

RVACON

(a little Deadpool seems appropriate right here)

Being a Richmonder myself, I have recently discovered RVACON. What is that? Oh, well let me tell you my young jedi friend.

From Friday September 27 to Sunday September 29 of the year 2013 there is going to be this giant nerd fest with anime, comics, cosplay, gaming music and technology.
Meaning:

All the Otaku can get their anime on with other fans, artists, and vendors. The head-honcho for anime will be Bens#1 Anime Review, and if you want to get a sneak peak you can check Bens#1 Anime Review Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Bens1AnimeReview?fref=ts

All the comic collectors can collect their hearts desires, Because this is the first RVACON the selection will be based on local artists and comics.

Any obsessive cosplayers, the extremists and the amateurs, can look forward to getting a cheaper door price ticket (if you dress up its $10 vs the original $15), and there will be a cosplay fashion show with prizes.

Gamers can seriously geek about the giant competition that awards prizes to winners with the most skills. They will be offering game to play from: Nintendo (like Tetris, oh my goodness, I am so excited about Tetris), Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Wii/Game Cube, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3

Music Junkies can appriciate panels, workshops, and a silent disco for your listening pleasure. At a silent disco, attendants are given sets of wireless headphones and everyone can jam to the same music and live DJs. The artists playing are: Reinhold, RudeeBeatz, Paranoid Androidz, Groove Status, Agent, Elliott Ness, ADEN, HeKontorlls, Rutu, Phil Dice, Chrispi Dream, HOYT!, Isra3l/Cassim, Metrix, Snarfie, and other!

And last but certainly not lame, Techno whizzes can learn how RVACON got its act together. They will have speakers talking about technologies used at RVACON and they will also talk about Google Glass!

So, if your interested in going (sadly i wont be able to make it), here is the link:
